Direction Industry 4.0: Franz Morat Group digitalizes Intralogistics with ORBIS MPS and SAP WM
The Franz Morat Group is laying the foundation for the digitalization of its intralogistics processes in the sense of Industry 4.0 with the warehouse management system from SAP (SAP WM) in combination with the ORBIS Multi-Process Suite (ORBIS MPS) as a mobile solution seamlessly integrated into SAP.
With the introduction of SAP WM and ORBIS MPS, the Franz Morat Group, a leading manufacturer of high-quality gears, worm gear sets and drive solutions, commissioned the internationally active business consulting and software company ORBIS AG. Thanks to the practical consulting and process expertise of the intralogistics experts at ORBIS and the partnership-based cooperation of all parties involved, the implementation in the incoming goods department and in the assembly warehouse of the main plant in Eisenbach was completed in three months.
The advantages of digital intralogistics processes with dialog-supported mobile data capture including paperless information flow and automated bookings became noticeable immediately after commissioning. All goods movements, from goods receipt through transport to receipt in the assembly warehouse, can now be controlled efficiently, transparently and securely. Thanks to a clear view of missing parts, the time-consuming search for required but non-existent components is no longer necessary, and the error rate for picking parts for assembly has been reduced to zero.
Thanks to end-to-end IT support, intralogistics processes can now be completed much faster than in times of paper-based processes with storage slips and routing slips. Articles required in the assembly area are now fetched from the storage location and handed over promptly and according to the FIFO procedure (= first in, first out). This shortens the waiting time in assembly, but also in downstream processes such as shipping, which in turn has a positive effect on delivery reliability - a real added value.
In the next step, the Franz Morat Group will introduce SAP WM and ORBIS MPS in the raw material warehouse and shipping, but also in the new E-motive plant in Poland, which is currently being built. In addition to smart logistics, ORBIS MES will also be used in the future to create a Smart Factory. The solution is seamlessly integrated into SAP ERP and links or synchronizes data and key figures from the shop floor with SAP processes.
"With SAP WM and ORBIS MPS, we are creating the prerequisites for smart intralogistics in the sense of Industry 4.0. Together with ORBIS, we will consistently continue along this path in the future," says Christopher Supp, Head of Logistics at the Franz Morat Group.
