ORBIS PCC instead of Excel: L'Orange integrates product cost calculation completely into SAP ERP
ORBIS AG is introducing the ORBIS Product Cost Calculator (ORBIS PCC) at L'Orange, a manufacturer of injection systems for large engines in ships, power plants, heavy vehicles and locomotives based in Glatten, Baden-Württemberg. This easy-to-use add-on enables L'Orange GmbH to fully integrate the calculation of manufacturing costs into the existing SAP ERP system.
By switching to the ORBIS Product Cost Calculator, which replaces the calculation with Microsoft Excel, the company expects to gain a wide range of business benefits when calculating manufacturing costs in the course of new or further development of its injection systems for large engines. Since the add-on enables direct access to prices, tariffs, overhead rates, bills of materials or routings in SAP ERP, the costing processes can be carried out in a consistent IT-supported manner on a uniform database and thus in high quality and very precisely. ORBIS PCC automatically uses the latest figures and data from the SAP software, so that all calculations can be flexibly adapted and continuously refined during the course of the calculation with little effort. Until now, all figures and data for the calculation had to be laboriously read out by hand from SAP ERP, transferred to Excel, reconciled and copied back and forth between the applications.
In addition, every calculation created with the add-on is stored in the SAP software. It can therefore be reused together with the associated SAP master data, and the know-how acquired in the process can be used to calculate costing variants. Those responsible at L'Orange hope that this will have a ratio effect, which will help to ensure that the calculations can be prepared with less effort and much faster than before, thus leaving room for core tasks such as identifying and analyzing cost drivers. ORBIS PCC can also be used to run simulations that show, for example, how a change to the material BOM or routings in SAP ERP will affect manufacturing costs - another benefit of the add-on.
In addition to its complete integration in SAP ERP, the user-friendliness of the menu interfaces was a decisive factor in choosing the ORBIS solution. The high level of consulting and process competence of the ORBIS experts in the field of product cost calculation in the SAP environment was also a convincing factor.
The ORBIS Product Cost Calculator is currently being implemented at L'Orange's headquarters in Glatten and is scheduled to go live at the end of the year. After that, the material and product cost calculation of the remaining five production sites will be converted to the ORBIS solution and carried out centrally.
